The Program Services YMCA Branch in Austin, TX is seeking YMCA of Austin Summer Camp Site Directors, Assistant Site Directors, & Counselors to join our team for summer programming.
We are looking for Youth Development professionals who are interested in creating a positive, nurturing relationship with children, while building cooperative relationships with parents/caregivers. Promotes and supports the potential of all youth in programs and facilitates peer-to-peer connections as part of the overall camp experience.

Camp Details

Summer Camp runs Monday – Friday, from 7:30 am – 6 pm daily. There are three start sessions: Tuesday, May 29th , Monday, June 4th and Monday, June 11th. Camp sessions end between, Friday,  August 17th – Friday, August 22nd. Camps are located across Travis, Hays, and Bastrop counties and include Kinder Camps (4-5 yr olds), Theme Camps (5-12 yr olds), Sports Camps (8-12 yr olds), and Adventure Camps (11-14 yr olds).

Pay rate (based on experience and job function):

  • Counselors $10.00-$10.75 per hour
  • Assistant Site Director $10.75-$11.75 per hour
  • Site Directors $11.75-12.75 per hour based on experience and job function

Counselor Job Description:

Camp staffs work the full summer at an assigned summer day camp. Each weekday, camp staffs work a 6-8 hour shift, depending on camp enrollment and field trip and swimming schedules.

Staff members lead required enrichment activities such Arts, Health and Wellness, STEM activities, sports, literacy, and lead camp songs/skits. Camp staff also lead field trips and trips to the pool. Camp staffs are required to actively swim with Y campers during free swim and to assist Y swim instructors during swim lessons.

All majors encouraged to apply. Responsibilities include supervision of children, implementation of daily activities in curriculum, and communication with parents.  All staff members receive Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (TDFPS) training. Pre-camp training is mandatory and will occur in the second half of May.  At camp, our Summer Camp Staff help campers gain a sense of achievement, relationships, and belonging.

Site Director/Assistant Site Director Job Description:

Includes counselor job description and will work directly under the supervision of Program Director, in addition to managing daily camp and site operations, coaching/leading counselors, creating weekly activity plan (arts, health and wellness games, etc.) based on YMCA curriculum, and creating weekly staff schedules.


  • Minimum of 18 years of age upon date of hire
  • High school graduate
  • Attend certification courses in CPR, First Aid, and Basic Water Rescue after hiring
  • Responsible, punctual, creative, and organized
  • Great communicator
  • Child care or camp experience preferred
  • Reliable transportation to attend work

Additional Site Director/Assistant Director Requirements:

  • Must be 21 years of age
  • 6 Month Full time in licensed childcare setting or 1 year in part-time capacity
  • 15 hours of Youth Development/Leadership Training (may include college courses in Childcare, psychology, sociology, education, etc. . .)
  • Attend Leadership trainings in April and All-Staff trainings in May
