The YMCA of Austin is seeking an Event Planning Intern to join our team for the Spring 2018 Semester.

We are looking for applicants that are available 15-20 hours per week from January-May 2018, with the ability to work between the hours of 9:00am-5:00pm, Monday-Friday, and occasional weekend events (TBD; must be available Saturday, May 12th).

General Function:

Under the direction of the Capital Campaign Coordinator, the Event Planning Intern will be planning, promoting, and managing a large public environmental education event in May (third annual). Goal is to attract 150 attendees, 15 volunteers, and 12 partner organizations. Additionally, the intern will coordinate a small donor stewardship event in March and provide support for various financial development events.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Recruit and coordinate event volunteers and partner organizations
  • Plan event activities, schedules, and logistics
  • Assist in the creation of promotion materials
  • Maintain event budget
  • Communicate with event participants before, during, and after events
  • Project a positive, helpful, friendly attitude to all internal and external participants

Qualifications:

  • Must be interested in contributing to the mission of the YMCA of Austin
  • Must have strong professional communication skills (email, phone, face-to-face)
  • Must be self-confident, results-oriented, and highly organized
  • Ability to multi-task in a busy environment
  • Experience with basic office functions is highly preferred

Technical Skills/Experience Required:

  • Working towards a bachelor’s degree with an interest in event planning, outdoor education, and/or non-profit development
  • Experience and/or knowledge in the natural sciences is a plus
  • Nonprofit experience is a plus
  • Must have reliable transportation to attend work (offices near downtown Austin)

Benefits:

  • Stipend of $600.00 per month (30 days)
