The East Communities YMCA Branch in Austin, TX is seeking an Aquatics Coordinator to join our team.



Under the guidance of the Aquatics Director, the Aquatics Coordinator will assist in managing all aspects of the aquatic department in accordance with the mission and purpose of the YMCA of Austin. The individual is responsible for the initiation and implementation of high quality, member-focused aquatics programs including swim lessons and swim team, the training and supervision of necessary staff, and the evaluation and modification of these initiatives.

PAY RANGE: $11-$14/hour, depending on experience


  • Assist in processing employment paperwork
  • Assist with ongoing supervision and training 
  • Assist with counseling of staff
  • Assist with lifeguard and swim instructor scheduling, help secure substitutes, and conduct staff orientations
  • Ensure pool rental and pool parties are appropriately staffed
  • Ensure all guards are aware of how to access and utilize the work schedule application
  • Check and update outlook calendars weekly for lap and rental pools to ensure accuracy
  • Know and fulfill all outlined responsibilities of swim instructor or lifeguard as needed 
  • Monitor swim class registration, prepare necessary paperwork, and return phone calls and e-mails as needed
  • Attend and assist with the planning and execution of required meetings, in-services and/or trainings 
  • Lead and manage staff of the swim team program
  • Assist with successful implementation of the YMCA Youth Swim Lesson program
  • Assist with Swim ATX program, a collaboration effort to train area students to become lifeguards
  • Perform any other duties or tasks as assigned by the Aquatics & Sports Director   



  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s preferred
  • Current CPR, First Aid, Emergency Oxygen, Lifeguard, Lifeguard Instructor and swim lesson instructor certifications
  • 2 or more years of experience with administrative support
  • 2 or more years of experience with teaching swim lessons, lifeguarding and pool management
  • Thorough understanding of the mission and objectives of the YMCA of Austin
  • Previous YMCA experience preferred
  • Reliable transportation to attend work
  • Good time management and communication skills
  • Team player with a positive, service-oriented attitude
