The YMCA of Austin Early Learning Readiness (ELR) programs are designed to help adult caregivers (moms, dads, grandparents, neighbors, nannies, etc.) and the children in their care. Program sessions last 15 weeks and are offered in both the Fall and the Spring. Participants will meet twice per week, for two hours each day at their location (north, south or east-central Austin).

We are looking to hire early childhood education specialists to work directly with the caregivers and the children at our sites and model learning through play. Staff will lead sessions twice weekly and implement program curriculum for adult caregivers and children.  In addition, the Specialist will be required to set up, plan, and implement activities that teach school readiness skills. Lesson plans will have weekly or monthly themes. Specialists will be required to pay close attention to safety and ensure that health/sanitation procedures are followed.

The fall semester program runs August through December, and the spring semester program runs January through May. Staff must be able to motivate and connect with all program participants. The position is open for bilingual Spanish/English facilitators only.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Degree in Early Childhood Education or related college coursework
  • Experience or training in facilitating groups, minimum of 6-12 months preferred
  • Training in early childhood education
  • Experience working with young children and families, 6-12 months preferred
  • Curriculum planning experience preferred
  • Must commit to school year of work with the ELR program (both Fall and Spring)
  • Must be bilingual (English/Spanish)
  • Team player with a positive, service-oriented attitude
  • Reliable transportation and ability to transport materials to and from site
  • Must pass two criminal background checks

Days/Hours: Approximately two classes a week Tues/Thurs or Mon/Wed classes 8:30 – 11:30 AM with an additional two Fridays per month for staff meeting and program field trip. On average, for those teaching at one location, Specialist would work a total of 6 hrs per week.  There are options to teach at multiple sites, resulting in a total of 12 hours weekly for the 15 week session.

Pay rate: $10 - $16 /hr (dependent on experience and certifications)

Required Certifications:

CPR, First Aid, Child Abuse Sexual Prevention, Bloodborne Pathogens (trainings provided after hiring)
