The Program Services YMCA Branch in Austin, TX is seeking an Administrative & Program Specialist for the Texas Youth and Government Statewide Program. We’re seeking applicants who can work Monday through Friday between 9:00am-1:00pm or 1:00pm-5:00pm. 


Pay rate: The following is the pay rate (depending on experience):  


Program Specialist: $10.00 - $11.75 per hour


Job Summary:

Under the direction of the Texas Youth and Government State Director, the Administrative & Program Specialist is responsible for assisting with the organization, delivery, and quality of YMCA Texas Youth and Government program. The position includes administrative responsibilities with an opportunity to gain skills in volunteer management, community outreach, event planning and marketing updates.  This position works independently, under general direction, and is expected to determine how to accomplish tasks. The Program Specialist position includes, but is not limited to, communicating with and coordination of volunteers for events and programs, researching community partnerships across the state, assist with conference and additional event planning details, and help compile newsletters, blogs and website updates.


Texas Youth and Government (YG) is a statewide civic education and leadership program. The mission is to help teenagers become responsible citizens and future leaders of our nation. High school and middle school students participate in a civic engagement and service-learning program that offers students the opportunity to serve in a model government process at the local, state, and national levels. 



  • Interested in contributing to the mission of the YMCA
  • Computer knowledge and experience creating routine reports and correspondence
  • Ability to speak effectively with volunteers and community members
  • Some college experience preferred
  • Previous experience in any of the following areas: program coordination, volunteer recruitment, public relations, communications or marketing experience
